What to Expect When I Photograph Your Wedding

If you book me for your wedding, here is the short version of what happens. I arrive during preparations, photograph the day as it unfolds without marching anybody around, and on my full-day packages I put a slideshow of your photos up on a big screen the same evening, before your guests have gone home. I have been photographing weddings full time since 2000, mostly around Barnsley, Sheffield and the rest of Yorkshire, and there is a good chance I have already worked at your venue.

That is the whole promise, really. Everything below is the detail.

When do I arrive, and how long am I there?

I usually turn up during preparations, while there is still hairspray in the air and somebody is looking for the ring box. How long I stay depends on the package you choose. Bronze covers the ceremony and reception up to the meal. Silver runs from preparations through to the first dance. Gold and Diamond cover preparations at two locations right through to the twilight photos in the evening.

I stay close enough to catch the nerves, last-minute laughs and little moments you might otherwise miss, without turning preparations into a photo shoot.

Will you be making us pose all day?

Not all day, no. I photograph the day as it happens, and I stay out of the way while I do it. But I am not going to leave you to it entirely either. Group shots matter to your families, so we will do them, and we will do them efficiently rather than making sixty people stand about in a car park for an hour.

Fourteen years working in catering and hospitality before I went full time taught me something useful: how to move a room quickly. That turns out to be surprisingly useful on a wedding day.

What is the same day slideshow?

On my full-day packages, I edit a selection of images during the wedding and show them on a large screen at the evening reception. Your guests get to see the story of the day before they have even gone home.

It is one of the moments couples mention most often afterwards. They have just lived the day and now they get to laugh, cheer and spot what they missed. It is included on Silver, Gold and Diamond.

What do we actually get afterwards?

Every package includes a handmade storybook album, an online gallery and a digital download.

If you want extras rather than a bigger package, you can add a second photographer, parent albums, a highlights video or your full resolution files individually. Prices for all of it are on my wedding packages page, starting at £895, because I would rather you knew before you enquired.

Do you know our venue?

There is a good chance. I have worked at venues across South and West Yorkshire, including Wortley Hall, Tankersley Manor, Hazlewood Castle and Barnsley Town Hall. Knowing the venue helps me plan around the light, the group photographs and whatever the Yorkshire weather decides to do.

New venues are welcome too. I am always happy to add another one to the list, and I love an excuse to travel.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Weddings do not always run exactly to plan. I have dealt with a bridesmaid’s stuck zip four minutes before the ceremony, late-running schedules, awkward light and surprise Yorkshire rain. With that experience behind me, very little throws me. My job is to stay calm, help where I can and keep the day moving.

How do we book you?

Get in touch, tell me the date and the venue, and I will confirm whether I am free and send you my wedding magazine. If you would like to meet first, absolutely. You are trusting somebody to spend one of the biggest days of your life alongside you, so it is fair to want to know whether you can stand them.
