Why I do what I do
A lot of photographers will tell you they got into weddings because they’re passionate about art, or light, or documentary storytelling. All of that’s true for me too — but honestly? I got hooked because of the people.
Weddings are the one occasion where everything is on the surface. The love. The nerves. The relief. The hilarity. The grandmother wiping her eyes during the vows. The best man who’s barely keeping it together. The flower girl who’s decided she’s done and just sits down in the middle of the aisle.
You can’t manufacture any of that. You can only be ready for it.
And after 25 years, I’m very, very ready for it.
What I’m actually like on a wedding day
I’m not one of those quiet, serious photographers who drifts around the edges looking intense.
If you’re looking for someone who’ll keep the energy up, take the edge off the nerves, get your relatives laughing during group shots, and make the whole day feel like fun rather than a photo session — that’s me.
Your guests will probably think I’m one of the wedding party by the end of the night. I’ll have had three conversations with someone about lego or mancaves, charmed your nan, and helped the bar staff carry something at some point. It’s just how I work.
The photos are serious. The day doesn’t have to be.
The time I saved a bridesmaid
(and probably the wedding)
It was about four minutes before the ceremony was due to start.
The bridesmaids were all nearly ready, the music was ready, the groom was already looking a bit pale at the front of the room — when one of the bridesmaids turned to us, white as a sheet, and said her zip had completely stuck.
In that moment you have two choices: panic, or fix it.
I’ve been around enough weddings to know that panicking is never the right call.
One steady pair of hands and we had her sorted in under a minute. She walked down that aisle on time. Nobody knew a thing. The couple got their perfect ceremony.
This is the part of my job that nobody puts on a website — the calm head when something goes sideways. After 25 years, I’ve seen enough that almost nothing phases me. Brides running late, venues with terrible light, surprise rain during the couple shoot. I’ve handled all of it, and I’ve come out the other side with photos people love.
That’s what 25 years actually buys you. Not just better photos — better judgement.

We wait until it gets dark — then that twenty-minute window just before the light has all totally gone, when everything turns cinematic and magic. That’s when we sneak away, just the two of you and me, and I get the shots that genuinely stop people in their tracks.
