A Black Tie Wedding at Wortley Hall, South Yorkshire | Imogen & Ryan, May 2026
From the moment guests swept through the grand entrance of Wortley Hall, it was clear this was going to be a wedding to remember. Set against the stately grandeur of one of South Yorkshire’s most treasured historic houses, Imogen and Ryan’s big day on Saturday 9th May unfolded with all the elegance, warmth and, as it turned out, theatrical flair that a couple as wonderful as these two deserved.

Getting ready
The boys got ready at Wortley in the early afternoon: shoes polished, cufflinks on and bow ties straightened by the groomsmen, with plenty of laughs along the way. Once they were ready, we headed out into the gardens for a few photos of Ryan and the boys looking the part.

The look
The dress code was black tie, and the guests rose magnificently to the occasion. A sea of sharp tuxedos and sweeping black evening gowns filled the rooms of Wortley Hall, creating a backdrop that was nothing short of cinematic, which made the arrival of the bride all the more breathtaking. Against that monochrome canvas, Imogen wore a stunning ivory lace wedding dress that drew every eye in the room.

Against a sea of black, Imogen glowed. Her ivory lace was the only thing anyone could look at.

The ceremony
The ceremony was in the library, surrounded by their family and friends. There were rings, a first kiss, and then straight out onto the front steps of Wortley Hall for a big group photo with everyone.

The grounds
May in Yorkshire had its own ideas about the weather, as it so often does. Rain showers drifted in and out through the afternoon, threatening to keep us inside the Hall’s magnificent interiors. But we’re not ones to let a few clouds win. Between the showers, we seized every dry moment to head out into the grounds, and it was absolutely worth it. The rhododendrons were in full bloom, and the soft, overcast light gave every frame a timeless quality.

The sausage dogs joined in too, and they were far better behaved than most groomsmen. Back inside, the library made the perfect setting for the bridal party in black tie. And when the next shower rolled in, out came the white umbrella for one of my favourite shots of the day.

The surprise
As the speeches finished and the evening began to stir into life, a collective gasp swept across the room. One of the waiters, carrying a tray with admirable confidence, took a rather spectacular tumble. Glasses were raised in alarm. Hands flew to mouths. There was a moment of held breath from everyone except the bride and groom, who were doing a very poor job of hiding their delight.
The room gasped. The guests froze. Imogen and Ryan beamed, because they already knew exactly what was coming next.
Of course, this was no accident. The “waiter” straightened up, turned to the room and launched into song. What followed was a brilliant performance from Imogen and Ryan’s secret singing waiters, who had the whole room on its feet within minutes. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening: unexpected, joyful and completely unforgettable.
Then came the first dance, on an LED dance floor covered in a cloud of dry ice. It looked like they were dancing on clouds. By then any formality had completely gone, the dance floor filled up, and Wortley Hall rang with laughter and music long into the evening.

A final word
Imogen and Ryan, what a day. From the elegance of the afternoon to the fun of the evening, you made a wedding that was entirely, wonderfully you. It was a privilege to be there with my camera. Wortley Hall has seen centuries of celebrations within its walls, but I have no doubt it will remember this one.
Wishing you both a lifetime of laughter, dancing and the occasional wonderfully orchestrated surprise.
