Bagden Hall Wedding Photographer

Scissett, Huddersfield Wedding Venue
Bagden Hall is a Victorian country house in Scissett, near Denby Dale, set in 40 acres of gardens and woodland with its own lake. It’s around 20 minutes from Barnsley, and one of my favourite places to photograph a wedding.
The Perfect Surrounding
Bagden Hall is a Victorian country house hotel on the edge of Scissett, between Huddersfield and Barnsley. The house sits above 40 acres of lawns, old trees and woodland that run down to a lake. It only hosts one wedding a day, so the house and grounds are all yours.
You can get married inside the house or outside on the lawns, as Bagden Hall is licensed for both. Getting ready is easy too. There’s a bridal dressing room with plenty of natural light, and the bridal suite is yours for the night. It’s dog-friendly as well, so your dog can be part of the day.
For photos, the grounds are brilliant. The view back up to the house across the lake is a classic, and the little folly by the lake is one of the most popular spots for couple portraits. The old trees and woodland paths are perfect for relaxed photos too. The front of the house works well for group photos, and after dark it makes a great backdrop for twilight shots. I’ve photographed weddings at Bagden Hall for years, so I know where the light is best and where to go if it rains.

Bagden Hall is on Wakefield Road in Scissett, near Denby Dale (HD8 8SZ). It’s around 20 minutes from Barnsley and Huddersfield, and about half an hour from Wakefield.
Can you get married outside at Bagden Hall?
Yes. Bagden Hall is licensed for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies, so you can say your vows on the lawns or inside the house.
Will we be the only wedding at Bagden Hall that day?
Yes. Bagden Hall only hosts one wedding a day, so you have the house and grounds to yourselves.
Can we bring our dog to Bagden Hall?
Yes. Bagden Hall is dog-friendly, with dog-friendly rooms if you’re staying over. Dogs make some of my favourite photos of the day.
Where are the best photo spots at Bagden Hall?
The folly by the lake, the view across the lake to the house, the old trees and woodland paths for couple portraits, and the front of the house for group photos. When it gets dark, the front of the house is perfect for a twilight shoot.
What happens if it rains?
The house has plenty of character inside, so we can still get lovely photos indoors. Showers often pass quickly, and a few minutes outside is all we need for some couple portraits.
